Parfume

Find yourself in fragrance

The world of perfumery is mysterious and diverse. The results of the work of modern perfumers, at first glimpse, are enough to satisfy even the most exacting consumers. However, fragrance production will only bring pleasure when it is selected in view of your individuality, circumstances and time of day. Of course we usually make choices intuitively, depending on our mood or the aspiration to make a certain impression on our associates. And, there are the little tricks, which should be remembered in order not to be mistaken with a purchase.

Firstly, perfumes should be in harmony with the clothes, conditions and smell of the skin. It is very important when purchasing fragrances, to take into account the time of its use (day, evening, work or holiday). The style of fragrance has a huge influence on the sensitivity of perception. Hot, snowing, rain or wind; fragrances react differently to changes in temperature and humidity. Therefore, when buying perfumes or scented water, bear in mind which season you will be using it in.

In the summer, when the surroundings are blossoming and natures gives us the natural smell of greens and the sea, the fragrance of perfumes should be second to these natural fragrances, only lightly making the presence known  – “Angelica Varum”. More intensive and heavy smells should be reserved for the colder seasons – “Night Rain”. In the afternoons, we recommend that you utilise fragrances with flowery notes of verdure, fruit and water accents – “Angelica Varum, Melody of the Soul”, “Blue Lagoon”. And for the evening it will be suitable to use notes of chypre, spices and wood –  “Night Rain”.  Remember that leisure on the beach is generally incompatible with strong perfume fragrances. Perfume applied to the skin can even change its colour.  Enjoy the fresh sea air, natural scents of fruit and flowers.

These are the basic rules, which perfumers adhere to when each year they introduce something new and genuine. Thus, in the summer, daytime flower scents of rose, lily of the valley, peony and violet, perfume compositions of flowers and aldehydes. Evening fragrances of chypre are most popular.

The skin of a young girl and the skin of a mature woman have different properties. Perfume products that incorporate the smell of leather are available in various tones.  It is necessary to take age into account when making a choice.

Young girls, teenagers, will be suited for delicate and romantic scents, like themselves, fragrances of flowers, fruits, May verdures and sea whiffs. Strong fragrances should not drift from young ladies. More mature ladies should not abuse perfumes in hot weather. It is better to take advantage of perfumed deodorants, eau de toilets or fragranced waters. Only go back to perfumes at night when the heat of the day has disappeared.

Of course, adult women may assume that they have more freedom in the choice of fragrances. It is not necessary to restrict oneself in any particular direction. Each woman may have a variety of fragrances in their arsenal, using them according to mood, weather conditions and time of day.

If any of you are still in doubt over which fragrance to choose, we offer you a small test which may help you to make that final decision.

Sniff the scent that has interested you, not for long, but with full concentration. After that, try to answer the following questions spontaneously without thinking about them:

1.     What if this smell was a paint? (light, dark, juicy, pastel…)

2.     What if this smell had a form? (tiny, large, sharp, round, angular)

3.     If this smell could be touched, how would it feel? (soft, rigid, warm, cold, smooth, rough)

4.     Can you connect this smell with a time, place or image? (sea sunset, tropical garden, night club)

5.     Can you connect this smell with a type of clothes? (jeans, light summer dress, magnificent evening dress)

6.     Can you connect this smell with any particular type of woman? (very young, romantic, of strict character, magnificently spoilt person)

The image created in your mind when answering these questions will help you to understand for what purpose, in what dress and in what season you would like to use this perfume. Carefully selected fragrances of perfumes, eau de toilets, fragranced waters, colognes with a slight scent of leather will emphasize your individuality.

Secrets of the perfumer

The impression that we create with perfumes (invitation, intimacy, openness or mystery), and its duration, depends not only on fragrance but also on the type of product we use. Unfortunately the indications on the packaging of perfumes are not expressed with clarity, as in different countries they will mean different things. Also, over time, the indications change.  But, generally the gist is the same.

Parfum (Perfume – eng., Extrait – obsolete.) – The most concentrated and intensive liquids. Issued in small bottles from 7 to15ml. Proportion of odorous concentrate – 20-30 %. The fragrant oil mixture includes a significant amount of expensive natural flower essences, which in other types of products are only present as substitutes.  This is the most expensive kind of aromatic liquid and it has exquisite packaging designed for it, along with an exclusive bottle.

Eau de Parfum on strength takes second place. The proportion of odorous oils is 15 -25%. Some manufacturers designate this as Parfume de Toilette. Eau de Parfum and all its variations is the optimum product for woman for whom application of fragrances is a necessary habit.

In Eau de Toilette the proportion of odorous product is 10 - 20 %. Men’s fragrances are also frequently produced under this name. In them, the proportion of fragrant mixture is a little bit lower, (from 6 to 12%).

Eau de Cologne (cologne) is found on bottles of aromatic liquids for men and it is the same as Eau de Toilette.

For perfume products originating from the USA, the word “cologne” is frequently used. In such cases it refers to, as a rule, fragrant proportions of 12 to 25 % and equates to French Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette.

According to Russian perfume traditions, it is acceptable to distinguish between the following, depending on the content of their composition and water-content: Fragrant waters, colognes, scented water, perfumed water, perfumes, perfumes of the “Extra” group and concentrated perfumes. Concentrated perfume has the most intensive fragrance, whilst fragrant waters have the lowest. The other products fall somewhere between these two.
